I can’t say enough about these two boys, and the amount of manners and respect that they have. Their mama and daddy have done a wonderful job, and it shows!

Copelin & Emmitt’s mama, Priscilla, contacted me to do an updated session of her boys. She’s so good at keeping up with portraits of them, and realizes the importance of documenting these special years of their lives. She’s also amazing at decorating and loves working this wall art into her designs.

She wanted them done at an old playground she used to frequent when she was younger. I couldn’t love the location more! Anything broken down and rusty looks like character and untold stories to me. I think it was the perfect setting for this session.

They aren’t perfect. No session is.

I make time a few times a year to take family pictures, and it is pure chaos lol! I may be a professional photographer, but that doesn’t mean that my kids are magically angels when it comes to taking portraits. In fact, I think they probably act a little worse lol!!

At first, this used to really bother me. I would often leave in tears, telling Drew ‘I’m supposed to be a professional photographer! Why are our pictures not turning out like everyone else I photograph??’

When I learned to let the idea of the ‘perfect’ session go, something magically happened. I was in the moment with my family. The technicalities of being a photographer disappeared and I was just a wife and a mom.

Are my family pictures perfectly posed? No.

Are my family pictures perfectly lit? No.

Am I happy with my mom body? Am I happy with our thrown-together outfits? No and No.

Does any of that even matter at the end of the day? A big NO.

These babies will look back at these images and see how much their mama and daddy love each other, and how much their mama and daddy love them. They will also have pictures with their mama and daddy IN the pictures WITH them. This is so important.

I’ll see a perfectly imperfect portrait session that reminds me just how fast my three babies are growing up. Enjoy looking at mostly outtakes of our family session in the sunflowers 😀
